You have to know how to overcome the rain - by El Loco #22
I'm no longer afraid of rain. It's there, it's part of the environment, not a virus that makes you feel bad and it's basically just wet anyway. Silly? Maybe, but true for me.
In my opinion, you get to your destination faster on an empty bike path, especially when it's pouring! The reason: nobody wants to experience rain, everyone hides in their cars. As if getting wet would kill them. Yes, pleasant, with heating, effortless, they laugh at the idiots who take the rain with them. And I laugh at them, who are so smart and safe - and still stand still. 10 minutes later, maybe the 4th or 5th traffic light phase will finally bring them around that one corner.
I then delivered a few kilometers further on. Yes, the bike paths are completely empty and fun. And I feel like a child playing in the water. At some point you dry off again anyway!
But now for the real tips: first of all, it's about the right rain jacket, then rain pants, up to and over the shoes or even in the shoes. Everything has been thoroughly tested. For the face: cycling cap with visor low down (that helps so much!) and just wear glasses for the last few drops in the eyes. Since I've been riding this combination, it's no longer a struggle with the rain. It's just getting easier and easier to accept it, to the point of having fun! Dopamine levels full and the feeling of having achieved something real and physical. TRY IT OUT! A feeling of fulfillment guaranteed. But always drive carefully, because when it rains, many pedestrians really do go crazy and become inconsiderate.
I used to hate rain - now I take it as it is. But I'm not proud of that. I'm proud that I'm taking a car off the environment. And I want to show that it's possible for everyone. To make the same journey, to develop resilience to the then fading sensations of cold and wet. We can all manage one more journey without a car. Once, for sure. Then one more. We can emancipate ourselves from the air-conditioned air, get out of the comfort zone that is actually killing the planet.
Convenience is the enemy of development. In sport, life and for the earth. No more excuses. Just do it!
